FAQ

Most Frequently Asked Questions

Your child should have their first dental visit by their first birthday or within six months after their first tooth erupts, whichever comes first. This is recommended by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry¹². Early dental visits can help prevent tooth decay and other oral health problems.
Your child should visit the dentist every six months for regular checkups and cleanings. Depending on your child's oral health, your dentist may recommend more frequent visits. Regular dental visits can help detect and treat any dental issues early and maintain good oral hygiene.
Your child should brush their teeth twice a day, in the morning and before bedtime, using a soft-bristled toothbrush and a pea-sized amount of fluoride toothpaste. You should supervise your child's brushing until they are at least six years old and can brush properly on their own. You should also teach your child to spit out the toothpaste and rinse their mouth with water after brushing.
You should avoid giving your child foods or drinks that are high in sugar, acid, or starch, as these can damage the enamel and cause tooth decay. Some examples of these foods and drinks are candy, soda, juice, chips, crackers, and dried fruits. You should also limit the frequency and duration of snacking between meals, as this can increase the exposure of the teeth to harmful substances.
If your child has a toothache, you should first rinse their mouth with warm salt water and apply a cold compress to the cheek to reduce swelling. You can also give your child a children's pain reliever, such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen, but do not put aspirin directly on the tooth or gum. Then, you should call your dentist and make an appointment as soon as possible. Your dentist will examine your child's tooth and determine the cause and treatment of the pain.
